Product Videos That Open Doors With Your Customers

While the purpose of a corporate video is to present your company as a whole, a product video drills down into the details of your product and showcases it in its best light to encourage customers to purchase. In this film we show how Hume Doors addressed the industrial trend with a specific line of doors in this glossy looking product video.

Product videos often have a polished commercial look to them, but they're not necessarily a "TV Commercial". Films such as this one are longer than your standard TV ad and will be exclusively used across online media such as the Hume Doors website as well as paid and free social media. This also means product videos don't always have to have the larger budgets that commercials typically do, because (a) there's a lot more flexibility on the technical production side of things and (b) the video is rarely played alongside a major competing product as with TV advertising. However this doesn't mean we need to skimp on the polish! Read on to see how we produced this video with just a small crew and still managed to create a glossy look.

Behind the Scenes: Product Video Production

In the first instance, a female voiceover was scripted and produced to guide the audience through the product video. Then with just a small crew of 3 from Global and 3 from Hume, together we shot the film in less than 6 hours. Using an industrial styled home as a studio backdrop to set the tone and theme of the film, the video was shot using gentle dolly moves to gracefully showcase the doors. Wider shots show each door freestanding among the space, while closer shots showcase the finer details of the product.

Throughout the shoot it was our aim to deliver a "glossy magazine" style look. By using a large daylight balanced light source reflected off a 6 foot ultra bounce fabric meant the light was softly scattered around the space and over the product. The result of this approach to the lighting leaves the product looking smooth and evenly lit, without any hard shadows or bright shiny hot spots. For a closer look at how our lighting approach added a huge amount of production value to this product video without the need for an extensive lighting setup, take a closer look at the frames below.
